Ultra Games: A New Web3 Marketplace for Digital Games

Say goodbye to neglected digital games in your Steam library! Ultra Games has arrived to help you sell them to fellow gamers.

The Ultra Games marketplace is a new Web3 gaming platform that allows players to resell their digital games to other users. This platform is built on top of the Ultra layer-1 network, which is a fork of the EOS blockchain that has been in development since 2018.

The platform will be launched on April 25, 2023, and will feature around 60 to 70 titles, including traditional “Web2” games like The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series, Syberia game series, and Lords of the Fallen.

The Ultra Games Platform

The Ultra Games platform is a revolutionary Web3 gaming platform that allows players to resell their digital games to other users via a secondary marketplace.

The gaming platform will launch on 29th August 2023.

The Digital Gaming Marketplace

The Ultra Games marketplace is a new digital PC gaming store that allows players to resell purchased games via the Uniq Marketplace. The platform has a tokenized license right that allows game publishers to opt-in or out of the program. However, Ultra Co-CEO Nicolas Gilot believes that there is a compelling reason for game studios to enable the secondary sale of games. The publisher’s royalty fee cannot be over 70% of the resale price. The gamer can set an initial no-resale period (such as for three months after launch), determine a minimum resale price point, and choose the royalty percentage that it automatically receives.

Gilot said that game developers and publishers will have further freedom to experiment with their business models compared to traditional digital game stores, like Steam, which prohibits Web3 games. With games being tokenized, the proof-of-ownership feature could be used by publishers or partners to give out discounts, unique in-game items, and more.

Digital Collectibles and Assets

Ultra Games is designed to support NFT initiatives from publishers and developers. They’ll be able to launch digital collectibles called “Uniqs” that can be traded in a similar manner to the tokenized game licenses. Digital collectibles and assets are already firmly established in popular Web2 games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), which has seen individual item sales for over $100,000 each. However, such assets are typically confined to a particular game or platform, while user-owned NFT assets open up the possibility of cross-game interoperability.

“Technology-wise, [a cross-game collectible] is totally feasible. That works really well if you’re the same game developer in multiple games,” Gilot told Decrypt, but he admitted that it’s “going to be extremely tricky” to navigate cross-game compatibility between multiple game makers.

The Advantages of Ultra Games

Ultra Games provides several advantages that traditional digital game stores like Steam do not offer. The platform allows users to resell purchased games via a secondary marketplace, providing them with a new source of revenue. Additionally, Ultra Games is accessible to non-Web3 natives, meaning users can sign up with an email and phone number. Crypto elements (such as your wallet address) are hidden beneath a Web2-friendly interface, but that information is accessible to users if desired. Ultra Games also doesn’t charge users network gas fees for transactions.

Conclusion

Ultra Games’ new Web3 gaming marketplace is poised to revolutionize the digital gaming industry by allowing users to resell their purchased games. This innovative model offers game developers the opportunity to experiment with their business models, including setting no-resale periods, minimum resale price points, and royalty percentages.

Moreover, the platform’s support for NFT initiatives from publishers and developers creates a new revenue stream and offers gamers unique collectibles that can be traded or sold.

Overall, Ultra Games offers a new way for gamers to interact with the digital gaming world while offering new revenue streams for developers and publishers. It remains to be seen how well the platform will be received, but its potential to change the gaming industry is undeniable.
